It’s “Degenerate Doomben” Thursday racing at its finest, with plenty of top notch donkeys having a play in the “banana bender” state. Soft 5 anticipated (Brisbanites are pretty soft) and we’ve got an 8 race card on the books. The highlight will be the amount of schooners the locals can smash down throughout the afternoon.

Race 1: Every derro and his dog are going to be loading up on the aptly named (4) Bundyandcoke, for reasons other than it’s form. It’s too short for me though. I’m going to be one of those losers that goes for a place bet on (11) Vast Karma. The debut at Emerald wasn’t as bad as the odds are suggesting, in the words of Big Shaq, $8 for a place is simple “mafs”.

Race 2: 1200m Canadian Club Maiden sounds like my sort of race. Going to give the favourite (14) Sonic Arrow a miss. She has had all the favours in her recent outings, hasn’t been able to score a maiden win and looks well found in the market. Keep an eye on the “late money”, but I do expect it to flow in the direction of (1) Dansant. She’s drawn well in barrier three and was respectable last start at this track, will threaten. Some nice value too.

Race 3: Narrowed this one down to (6) Champagne Aunty and (7) Miss Penfolds. Alcoholic omen bets aplenty today, but these two should be able to slot in behind the pace setter Youngblood and be too strong late over the favourite. Mapping and sectionals lead me to (6) Champagne Aunty on top, but I think the play here is a quinella with the (6) and (7)

Race 4: If you want to brag to your mates that you backed a winner, load up on (1) Whozyadeeler. Nobody missed the debut, and if it’s half as good as it’s namesake, it will have the other 9 cobalt-ridden, drug mules chasing it down the Doomben straight (Citation needed). At $1.50 it’s the easiest way to make 50% on your drug money for the day, throw your house behind it (please don’t sue…).

Race 5: Tough race with a few potentials with some decent form. Might be better off giving this race a miss and smashing some XXXX DRY as the race name suggests. If I did have to have a play, (8) Top Babe offers a decent each way chance. She looks overs based off the Lismore and Grafton efforts and we know that Northern NSW form can often match up in Brisbane. Not confident though, in a wide open race.

Race 6: The favourite (3) Kateys Daughter is the obvious choice with three wins this campaign. A little too short at the $2.20 and will only jump on if I can get $2.50 or more. Not very hopeful of that happening. If the favourite doesn’t drift, might have a cheeky bet on (1) I’ve Gotta Nel with some decent runs down the road at the Goldie. The 3kg claim for Kate Cowan means the 83 rater is in pretty well at the weights.

Race 7: Do yourself a favour and give this race a wide miss. Only some voodoo magic or tea leaves can help you decide which of these will be competitive or … not so competitive. Pass

Race 8: Going to go with 4yo gelding by Deep Field, (3) Rebel Salute to end the day in style, after I assume all my other garbage bets fall through. The $675,000 purchase will be ridden by Michael Rodd, is tactically versatile and is on an upward spiral and could just blow them away if you want to take the shorts ($2.40).

A lot of value in these selections today, so one or two winners from these should give you a bit of money in your/my pocket. Hopefully will have plenty of cash to load up on the dishlickers after. Happy punting!
