Close to a month ago, a fairly innocuous tweet popped up on my timeline from Warrnambool trainer Matthew Williams. It was smack bang during yearling sale season and like most trainers, he was trying to sell shares in recently acquired bloodstock. But something about it caught my attention,

“The unraced half sister might be quite fast.”
What half sister?!?!
Who trains it?!?!
And most importantly…
What’s her name?!?!
A look through Matthew Williams’ website showed no relations. Damn. That would have been too easy.
I kept digging though. I had to find this horse. And when searching for the broodmare on Racing Australia I got a name.
Boom.

Waitingfortheday. An unraced 3YO filly, half sister to the speedy Fontiton. Bought for $420,000 and trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr.
“Wait, Matt Williams trains some of their horses down at Warrnambool!”
It was all starting to make sense.
From there, I did a search of the database at The Jumpouts. She’s had three jumpouts in the Western districts of Victoria and won them all very convincingly. Here’s her most recent effort.
Every couple of days, I’ve searched her name on Racing Australia to see if she’s been nominated for her debut. Today I scrolled through the acceptances for one of my favourite punting tracks, Warracknabeal, and nearly fell off my chair.
“She’s in!”
Waitingfortheday has been nominated for both Warracknabeal (Saturday) and Mornington (Sunday) this weekend. She’s drawn wide in barrier 12 at Warracknabeal, but the field is very weak. I was very keen on the main danger Euphegenia at Ballarat when she finished third. The Noblet stable will be thinking they’re very stiff to have lobbed in the same race as the Mick Price/Mick Kent Jnr filly, if she does indeed decide to go there.
Long story short. If Matthew Williams is going to the sales and dropping $130k on the basis of what he’s seen looking after her half sister, Waitingfortheday must go alright. After completing some amateur detective work, I’m already invested. I’ll be backing her at any price on Saturday. Even though I hate punting at Mornington with a passion, I’ll back her there too.
Because I’m a loyal kinda guy. Also because I like money.
