Following a tiny meeting on the Polytrack at Ballarat on Monday afternoon, the races return to the turf with big fields at Stawell this Tuesday. It’s a tricky meeting but there are a couple of horses I want to be with to be with today. Good luck and make sure to follow @MitchBetAU on twitter for any late mail/post race analysis/rage tweets.

Race 4 Number 6 Rivinado

This 3YO Toronado colt has looked like a potential 2000m horse since it’s jumpouts in late Feb/early March. Was backed $4.20 into $2.80 in a pretty strong 1200m Colac maiden on debut, ran fair at Werribee second up yet the Cumani stable still saw enough to take him to the $475k VOBIS Guineas race at Caulfield. Drops significantly in grade for this, is drawn well in barrier 1 and has the services of in-from Patrick Moloney to ride. Worth noting has a tongue tie applied for the first time so might have been excuses last start.

I think he’s the one to beat and currently at $4, I’m happy to have a bet here.

Race 3 Number 11 Mazneen

The most interesting runner of the day for me. A $58k purchase, had one Flemington jumpout as an unnamed horse on the 22nd of May 2020. There he jumped cleanly, was untested and not asked for an effort however moved pretty well. Since has moved from the Mark Kavanagh stable at Flemington to be under the care of Paul Preusker. Comes into this without and recent jumpout, however this is a tactic used by the stable in the past.

Currently at $27 and 7.50, I think it’s worth a small play on an each way basis on the chance there is something decent under the hood. It’s no moral, but there looks to be a story behind this horse.
