Flemington Best Bet: R7 N11 Chaillot
Dropping back in grade from a Group 1 last Saturday and is has three starts from three wins at this track and trip. Will be flying down the outside late.
Flemington Best Value: R5 N4 Princess Jenni
Stuck on to finish 4th after being caught wide in the Tesio Stakes at Moonee Valley. Getting up to 2000m suits and she has a habit of bobbing up at a price.
Meeting thoughts:
There are several short priced favourites I can see winning at Flemington today. Warning, Alcyone and Zaaki are all strong winning hopes but they are well found in the markets. If all three won I would not be surprised. I can’t be with Hosier in race 1, the Lloyd Williams horses have been no good recently (which probably means it’s a moral with me jumping off). Alcyone and Vitruvius should be a lot closer in the market in race 3 and if the price differential remains the same ($2.15 vs $4) I could be persuaded to jump ship to the latter. Will look for Shaquero and Streets Of Avalon to run well behind Nature Strip in the Darley Classic, one of those two could be the quinella horse. Finally in the last, I’m opposing Duchess Of Dorset. She’s definitely a progressive mare, but this is her first time down the Flemington straight, this is the toughest assignment she’s faced and therefore too short for mine at $2.90.
Race 1: Equation 1, Seiners Express 2, Hosier 3, Our Playboy 4.
Race 2: Warning 1, Sound 2, Dr Drill 3, Lunar Flare 4.
Race 3: Alcyone 1, Vitruvius 2, Lunatic Fringe 3, Mr Cancun 4.
Race 4: Port Louis 1, Our Heidi 2, Bend The Knee 3, Jimmy The Bear 4.
Race 5: Princess Jenni 1, Nimalee 2, Mahashakti 3, Only Words 4.
Race 6: Nature Strip 1, Shaquero 2, Streets Of Avalon 3, Bella Nipotina 4.
Race 7: Chaillot 1, Ranier 2, Justacanta 3, Begood Toya Mother 4.
Race 8: Zaaki 1, Mo’unga 2, Colette 3, Hungry Heart 4.
Race 9: It’sourtime 1, Duchess Of Dorset 2, Lowanna Magic 3, Sam’s Image 4.
Geelong Best Bet: R1 N4 Guardian Spirit
Was thrown into Group 2 company at the end of his first prep. Been an eye catcher at the jumpouts and Damien Thornton is coming to Geelong for one ride before heading up to Flemington. $2 is a good bet.
Geelong Next Best: R2 N10 Jalasaat
This well bred filly by Najmaat (also trained by Lindsay Park) finished third in a recent trial at Tatura but it was a Flemington jumpout she won on the 3rd of September that caught the eye. Drawn better than several of her main rivals in barrier 2 also.
