Another Melbourne Cup day is upon us and this looks to be the toughest card I can remember! I really struggled to narrow down more than two betting opportunities there so turned some more attention to the beautiful Murray River town of Echuca.

Echuca Best Bet: R3 N14 Roaring Miss

This Lloyd Kennewell-trained filly was beaten by a smart horse Angelone at Mildura before hitting the line in a strong maiden at Ballarat last start. If she can replicate either of those efforts from the good draw she will be hard to beat.

Echuca Next Best: R5 N10 Whatafox

Nine start maiden trained by Maher and Eustace however has jumped out exceptionally ahead of a return here. This is a pretty shallow race but if we can somehow manage to get $2, she is a bet.

Echuca Best Value: R6 N8 Hard To Cross

Heavily backed on debut at Mildura when wide and hit the line strongly. Patrick Payne has given him a trial between runs and he looks primed to atone second up.

Flemington Best Bet: R8 N5 Nugget

International runner having his Australian debut. Good form in the UK, drawn well and impressive 6L Cranbourne jumpout winner. He looks like this is a target race first-up.

Flemington Next Best: R4 N7 Cool Kaap

Disappointed last start as favourite last start but will be much better suited at the 1800m. Waller and McDonald combination a big tick.
