This Wednesday we step away from Sandown and have midweek racing at Sale. Although it’s not a metro meeting, there are some exciting debutants to keep a watch on in the first event, along with a few plays in the maidens following. It’s a soft 5, the rail is out 6m but expecting the track to play fair.
Best Bet: Race 3 Number 2 Enzo
The Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr-trained galloper is a kiwi import who trialed impressively before ultimately landing with new connections here in Australia. Looked very green in his work at Tauranga in September 2022 but has had three recent jumpouts before debut here. The favourite Royalz has some runs on the board, however we’re getting a nice price ($5) to see if Enzo can translate his trials to raceday.
Next best bet: Race 2 Number 3 Rouge Moulin
Taking on the favourite and pretty well credentialed Scorsese here. This incredibly well bred gelding by I Am Invincible out of a group 1 placed mare Risque had the price tag to match going for $700,000 at the 2021 Inglis Premier sale. The stable had been nominating and scratching this guy for a month, only to go to Geelong on debut and miss the start by 8L. Has jumped out between runs to get his barrier manners in check and can improve sharply off his debut run.
Best value bet: Race 4 Number 9 Ngorongoro
This is one yuck race and I’m steering clear of the two up the top of the market Cumbrian Queen and Freeflow. Stablemate of Cumbrian Queen, Ngorongoro is third up today after two runs in midweek metro grade where she was beaten by 12L and 7.4L respectively, however in much tougher events and unsuitable trips. Drops way back in class today and if she can replicate her last run which was 5L quicker than class average, can give this a real shake at good each way odds ($10).
